Golden Autumn Flower

Golden Autumn Flower

Pamela Haining

Autumn is probably my favourite month but I also really love the transition from summer to autumn, those early September days where you still have the warm summer sun mixed with cooler, darker evenings. For this design I imagined the flowers in our garden border turning their faces away from us, the constant viewer, to follow the sun as it settles slightly earlier each night. The warmth slowly fading each day.

As part of a small collection of modern florals I've been designing and carving, this new single flower design was carved using Essdee’s Mastercut soft lino. The soft cut lino block is buttery smooth to carve, which allowed me to concetrate on having natuaral, free-flowing lines created with minimal friction. The leaves and petals follow an angular, flattened style whilst being curved and soft, adding to that overall relaxed feeling on a lazy, late summer/early autumn afternoon.
