Large Tulip Block Print on Fabric

A New Year and new goals; if you missed my first blog post, this year I intend to share more and most importantly create more. I often find the juggle of family life and commitments can easily derail my good intentions and creative focus, so to keep myself on track and as a way to push forward creatively, design, carve, print and share a new block print/linocut every week. That’s it.

The prints can be of anything; floral/geometric/abstract etc, carved from any material (foam, rubber, lino and so on) and for any medium or project. Single colour or multicoloured prints, there are no rules.

Every Friday I’ll share my print of the week along with some helpful information to inspire you to get printing or perhaps even set your own challenge.

And with all that being said, let me introduce my first block print of the year; a modern tulip-type flower block printed on to cotton-bamboo fabric in a peach and periwinkle blue colour way. After transferring my design onto the block (softcut lino in this instance) I always take a quick test print to check the design. For some test prints I’ll use a stamp ink pad for ease and quickness. I only really want to check how well the lines and detail will print. For this block I decided I wanted to print a two colour combination and so cut the flower part from the leaves to create a jigsaw block.
