Studio Notes: Welcome to the height of June

Studio Notes: Welcome to the height of June

Pamela Haining

Here in Norfolk, mid-June brings a beautiful shift to our doorsteps. If you step outside right now, you’ll notice the hedgerows are suddenly overflowing with pale pink dog rose blooms, and out in the garden, my herb boxes are dense with purple chive flowers that are just gently starting to fade. The wildness of summer is officially here.

In my last newsletter, I wrote about honouring the creative ebbs and flows of a slower way of living. This week, I’ve stopped just thinking about the flow - I'm quite literally leaning into it.

With the weather being far too spectacular to miss, I’ve shifted my daily routine entirely. I’ve moved my studio work schedule to the quieter, cooler evening hours, allowing myself the immense grace of getting outdoors during the day. Most afternoons, you can find me out on the Norfolk Broads with my paddleboard or kayak.

Out on the water, paddling gently and listening to the wind rustle through the reeds, it feels like a form of flowing meditation. It’s an opportunity to slow down and physically match the rhythm of the river.

Admittedly I’m not as present on social media right now, but please know that behind the studio doors, I am always quietly working away in the background; packing up your lovely orders with care, replying to your thoughtful emails, and carving new designs.

In the Studio: The Wonder of the Forget-me-not

This week, I'm excited to (finally!) reveal my latest linocut designs, celebrating one of our most beloved and sentimental cottage garden classics: the Forget-me-not.

I'm endlessly fascinated by botanical details. Did you know that forget-me-nots naturally change colour? They often open as a soft, delicate pink before shifting into their iconic, vivid sky-blue.

This design was slowly carved and hand-printed right here in the shed, and they will soon be making their way onto a brand new run of greeting cards, notecards & art prints. They carry a quiet message of lasting connection, whether you’re sending a note of comfort or just letting someone know they're in your thoughts.

The Flow State: If you're feeling overwhelmed by a rigid to-do list, I invite you to consciously shift one task to a "non-traditional" time. Clear out a pocket of the day to simply go where the weather takes you.
