Autumn Medley Linocut

Autumn Medley Linocut

Pamela Haining

Hello February! I feel like this year has gotten off to a flying start and I’m not quite sure if I’m keeping up yet. As we enter a new month I’ve spent some time reflecting on the previous year, my favourite moments and months. Something I really love about living in the UK is the change in seasons, there’s something very definite, clear and clean cut as we month from one season to another.

After a long winter I truly appreciate the spring warmth, longer days and explosions of colour. Summer feels like it brings out the best in everyone, the peak of daylight hours, never-ending sunshine and long, lazy evenings spent in the garden are a treasure. Then something magical happens as autumn approaches. Autumn is perhaps my most favourite season of them all. The change that happens during these months is dramatic, it’s welcomed and needed. I find Autumn a comforting, reflective period which I look forward to every year.

This linocut is an ode to autumn if you like, it’s a visual representation of autumn flora and foliage. My ‘Autumn Medley’ is a single colour linocut, carved from Japanese vinyl and hand printed onto cotton fabric. It features an assortment of asters, anemones, blackberries, elderberries, oak and birch leaves.
