This is perhaps my favourite piece I have designed and carved this year, so far at least. I had an idea to draw more abstract florals constrained in a diamond shape surrounded by more leaves and flowers. To keep the detail that drew and the image sharp, I knew I have to carve this design from Japanese vinyl, my favourite lino block material.
For my final print, I used my craft press (which is similar to an etching press) to pint my block onto handmade cotton rag paper, which is full of texture and imperfections, I love this combination for hand printing.
I also played around with printing on top of a background colour by flipping the block over and inking up the reverse.
Every Thursday, I invite you into my Norfolk studio to share freshly printed botanical treasures, the hedgerow wanderings that inspired them, and gentle seasonal reflections from my creative journey. It's a cosy weekly note filled with countryside charm and printmaking magic.
